Avoid Driving Over Fire Hoses for Safety Reasons

Staff Report / CGlocal.org

The Casa Grande Fire Department has issued an important reminder regarding fire hoses in the road. It is illegal and dangerous to drive over a fire hose for several reasons:

- Driving over a fire hose can cause it to burst, cutting off the water supply that firefighters need to extinguish a fire.

- A hose can get caught under a car and dragged along, posing a risk to firefighters and bystanders.

- Fire hoses carry a large amount of water under high pressure, and a burst hose can injure drivers or people nearby.

- If a vehicle runs over a hose, the hose must be taken out of service and tested for safety before it can be used again. This is often costly, as hoses may need to be replaced if damaged.

The Fire Department advises that if motorists see a fire hose on the road—even if it appears flat or there is no water flowing—they should not drive over it. Instead, they should seek an alternate route. If that is not possible, it's recommended to park away from the scene and ask a police officer or firefighter for assistance in navigating around the area to ensure everyone’s safety.
