Remembering Officer Johnny Garcia: A Tragic Loss

On October 14, 1989, Arizona Department of Public Safety Officer Johnny Garcia tragically lost his life in a crash while responding to reports of a drunk driver. The incident occurred near the Picacho interchange on Interstate 10. As Officer Garcia was passing another vehicle on State Route 84 near Casa Grande, his patrol car encountered loose gravel, causing it to roll several times. The car then collided with another vehicle before striking a tree.
Officer Garcia had served with the Arizona Department of Public Safety for three and a half years before his untimely death. For more information, visit www.azdps.gov/fallen-troopers.
