Casa Grande Police Trains on Autism Awareness Techniques
Staff Report / CGlocal.org
**Casa Grande Police Department Completes Specialized Autism Training**
The Casa Grande Police Department recently completed specialized training aimed at improving interactions with individuals who have autism and other developmental disabilities. The training was provided by Preston's Pursuit for Acceptance, a program dedicated to fostering understanding and acceptance for the autism and disability communities.
Casa Grande is now the second police agency in Arizona to complete this training. The program focused on equipping officers with tools to better recognize and communicate with individuals who may have sensory sensitivities, difficulty with verbal communication, or other challenges that can affect interactions. The goal is to help officers de-escalate situations more effectively and avoid misunderstandings.
This training reflects the department’s commitment to inclusivity, respect, and community policing by ensuring that all residents, regardless of ability, are treated with dignity and care. It also highlights the importance of creating a positive relationship between law enforcement and the diverse members of the community.
Residents interested in learning more about the training or Preston's Pursuit for Acceptance are encouraged to explore additional information shared by the police department.
